Nagerkoil was a part of Kerala district. Later it was added with Tamil Nadu. The name Nagerkoil has come from the temple called Nataraja temple which was once a Jain temple. It is one of the tourist attractions in Nagerkoil. There is a famous Church called St. Xavour’s Church which is 12 kms from Kannyakumari and it is a Roman Catholic Church. In those days Nagerkoil was called as Nanjilnadu. The climate in Nagerkoil is quite good throughout the year. Nagerkoil is receiving rainfall from both north-east and South-west monsoon winds. It is both a commercial and industrial city. The industries here are cotton-milling, rubber goods, rice and motor repair. The most of people living here belong to Muslim community. The Nataraja temple here is installed in the ground where it was found and the prasadam given are the mud dug from the place of Nagaraja. Kannyakumari is near to Nagerkoil. It is one of the nice tourist places to visit. The remarkable spots in Kannyakumari are Vivekananda Rock, Thiruvalluvar Statue and Gandhi Memorial etc.
